Some stories are remembered. Some are almost forgotten. And some linger in the shadows, shaping the world we live in today, knowingly or not. In the Shadow of Yesterday is my place to track them down — the surprising, the overlooked, and the remarkable moments that still leave their impact long after they’ve passed.
History is full of surprises, and some of them are stranger than fiction. Did you know that George Washington, our foremost Founding Father, accidentally started the first global war in history—and it had nothing to do with the American Revolution? Or that a small town in Pennsylvania, still around today, has been at the heart of the American story, yet almost nobody knows it? Or that a prominent New Yorker once murdered the most famous federal prosecutor in the country in broad daylight in front of the White House? He got away with it by creating a legal theory we all know and reference today, and along the way helped shape Central Park, became a famous Civil War general, served as an ambassador, and even got entangled in scandal with European royalty.
In the Shadow of Yesterday is where I’ll share these kinds of stories: remarkable events, overlooked people, and the twists of history that make you sit up and take notice. Some you may recognize, others will be brand new, but all of them are worth telling.
